Canada 2007 | Run time: 103 min. | Director: Stéphane Lafleur
Continental, a Film Without Guns is a very original film, with a very original title. Hot off his Best Canadian Feature win for Congorama at the 26th Atlantic Film Festival, producer Luc Dery is back with more fresh directing talent. Stephane LaFleur’s feature debut is a carefully observed character study following the exploits of four main characters. Their lives will subtly intertwine after the disappearance of a man who has simply walked off into the woods. We soon join in the lonely lives of this cast of lovable losers, including the man’s wife, who begins receiving strange phone calls that seem to be emanating from the forest. Eschewing overheated Crash-style melodrama, this ensemble film quietly builds a series of very real and absurd moments to subtly show what makes us all human.
